The fortified castrum from the 12th century, including ramparts and flanking towers that we can still see and the old village are medieval.
We can see chequered black basalt and white limestone’s stones, which are found in lots of villages in our territory.
Geologically, Rochemaure castle was built in a strategic location. Coiron plateau’s basalt and Cruas limestone quarry were used to supply the construction of the castle and the lovely old village. We can admire spectacular views of the Rhône and volcanic landscapes.
