For the record...
Max Ernst in Saint-Martin-d’Ardèche
Max Ernst, a major artist of the Dadaist and Surrealist movements and a German painter and sculptor, stayed in Saint-Martin d’Ardèche between 1938 and 1941 with his English partner Leonora Carrington. Many of his works, now exhibited in major museums, were created there. As Leonora would later say, their life in Saint-Martin d’Ardèche was like “an idea of paradise”.
